Template for Printing Certificate
The AMCS Internet Application, at this time, does not support printing certificates. Concerns have been expressed regarding this lack of printing capability. We have talked with several AMEs who have created their own templates to print their airman certificates. We think this is a great idea! With this in mind, we have developed a modifiable template for use with Microsoft Word and your printer as an alternative to typing certificates with a typewriter. The template was designed in Windows NT 4.0 using Microsoft Word 97 SR-2, utilizing two different types of Hewlett Packard printers, a 5SI and a Laser Jet III.
The template works by providing you with a table (or chart) in which the airman’s information is entered. Then you are able to feed the actual certificate into your printer so the required information is printed directly onto the certificate.
We are providing this template as a framework only. You will more than likely need to adjust the margins and settings to fit your particular system. The template is not a guarantee that you will be able to print certificates.

- Follow your browser prompts to download the file.
- cert.dot should now be in your User Templates.
- Go into Microsoft Word.
- Click on the File menu option.
- Click on Open from the File menu.
- Go to the directory where you saved the Certificate Template.
- Double click on Cert.dot (this will open the template as a document so that you may make changes to it). You may need to make changes to the template, i.e. margins, spacing, font size, etc.
- Once the template is pulled up, click on the Tools menu option.
- Click on Unprotect (clicking this option will allow you to make changes).
- You may then adjust margins, etc.
- If you do make any changes, you will need to save those changes. To save the changes, click the File menu option. Choose Save. This will save any changes you have made.
- We recommend after you have the template set up so that it lines up with the certificate, you protect the template so that changes cannot be made by unauthorized individuals. Click on Tools, and then Protect Document. Once you click on Protect Document, you may get an option asking what you want to Protect Document For. Select Forms.
- We recommend you print the certificate information on a plain sheet of paper to preview how it lines up with the certificate before printing on the actual hard copy of the certificate.
- You might have to adjust various printer settings with regard to paper size.
- You will want to choose the option to manually feed or form feed the certificate.
