When did the Internet system become effective?
On October 1, 1999 all U.S. civilian aviation medical examiners were required to submit their FAA Form 8500-8’s via the Internet-based Airman Medical Certification System (AMCS). The system replaced the DOS-based version of AMCS. Military AMEs were required to transmit exams in October 2004.

International AMEs will be required to transmit all exams beginning June 30, 2008.
