10/02/2001 If you search for an airman by SSN, and there are no items matching that SSN in our system, please go back to the search screen and query the airman by name and date of birth.

07/31/2001 Reminder: Because the Aerospace Medical Certification Division does not require the back of the FAA Original copy of the 8500-8 form to be filled out for transmitted exams, the AME is not required to sign the back of the form. The "Yes" answer to Item 64, the AME Declaration, on the electronic exam takes the place of the signature. Also, please remember to check the appropriate box on Item 62 and note your AME number in Item 64 on the FAA Original Copy you are mailing in. Thank you.

06/13/2001 AMCS Update: The address field has been modified to now accept the following characters: / , - , # . Special note for AMEs across the International Time Line: the date field has been modified to accept your current exam dates.

05/30/2001 Data entry tip: You may use your tab key to move from field to field, and you may use shift + tab to move backwards through the fields.

05/25/2001 The AMCS Hotline will be closed Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day. The AMCS/DIWS Internet System will be online to accept exam transmissions.

05/01/2001 Please Note: A new version of AMCS/DIWS will be released on 05/07/2001. The new version of AMCS/DIWS will address the following items:

  • The default "No" for Items 18v and 18w has been removed. This change to AMCS/DIWS was necessary to ensure the information transmitted to the Aerospace Medical Certification Division completely and accurately reflects the information gathered on each FAA Form 8500-8.
  • There have been some validation changes to the Address and City fields. Punctuation is no longer permitted. The airman's address and city should be entered with no punctuation.
  • Validation criteria has been added to the Zip Code field. This validation will verify that the Zip Code entered is valid for the State selected, if applicable.
  • Country of Citizenship has been added as a new field and corresponds to the "Citizenship" field in block 6 of the FAA Form 8500-8. The default selection for this field is USA and should be changed accordingly.
Please refer to the updated AMCS/DIWS Instruction Manual for a more detailed description of the validation changes. 04/04/2001 AMCS/DIWS Internet 1.7.2.5 Enhancements; In our ongoing attempt to improve the quality and validity of data that is transmitted to FAA CAMI, a new version of AMCS/DIWS will be released on April 10, 2001. The new version of AMCS/DIWS will address the following items:

  • Date fields
  • Name Suffix
  • State and Country of residency
  • Airman age
  • Height and Weight
  • The "No" defaults in Items 20 (Airman Signature) and 64 (AME signature) have been removed.
Please refer to the updated AMCS/DIWS Instruction Manual for a more detailed description of the validation changes.

03/19/2001 The phone number (405) 954-4821 is available for airmen who have questions about medical certification.

02/01/2001 Please note: The box labeled "Sfx", located just to the right of the Middle Name Field, should only be used to note any applicable suffix for an airman (i.e. Jr, Sr, III, etc.) The sex of the airman should only be noted in Item 9. Thanks!

01/10/2001 Data Entry Tip: The AMCS system will allow you to enter a "0" for Total Pilot Time in Items 14 and 15. However, the only way AMCS allows a "0" in the numeric field is if you choose "N/A" in the Logged/Estimated box (located just to the right of the numeric field).*
