Flight Crew Performance Assessment
Research Mission Statement
Assessing human performance and determining performance and safety benefits of advanced aviation systems, displays, and controls for general aviation pilots.
Our Research Focus
This program focuses on the design of flight deck controls and displays related to emerging technology, development and validation of performance-based criteria for use in certification and regulation, and the successful integration of training devices into existing instructional systems. Analyses of objective human performance data are used in identifying affordable initiatives for enhancing flight crew performance and reducing accidents and incidents.
Researchers attempt to quantify, analyze, and predict performance of operators of the National Airspace System (NAS) under a wide variety of laboratory and field conditions, with a primary emphasis on general aviation (GA) flight crews. This human factors research is focused on obtaining objective, scientifically derived data which will aid in identifying affordable initiatives for enhancing pilot performance and reducing the number of accidents and incidents in the GA community.
