Our Research Focus
Using real-time ATC simulation capabilities, this research program focuses on the impact of advanced automation technologies on controller performance, taskload, and information transfer. Researchers analyze advanced ATC system designs and their effects on controller workload and performance, develop metrics of performance and workload using routinely recorded ATC data, and assess the applications of innovative control and design concepts.
A major function of this area has been the development and use of SATORI (Systematic Air Traffic Operations Research Initiative), a system used to re-create air traffic control situations. Also, investigators in advanced ATC systems research study situation awareness and its role in air traffic problems.
