Information for Notice of Landing Area Proposal
It is necessary under Part 157 of the Federal Aviation Regulations to notify the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of any proposal which would establish, alter, or abandon a landing area. To fulfill this requirement, please complete FAA Form 7480-1, Notice of Landing Area Proposal.
Please note in the Advisory Circular 70-2E that the location of the landing area must be marked on a U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle map (which can generally be obtained from a library or book store).
Send the annotated map along with the completed from to the appropriate Airports District Office (se below). It is important to precisely locate and annotate the landing area's location on the map so that your proposal can be properly processed. n In addition to marking the location on the map, the following items must be documented:
- Show the orientation of the landing area.
- Specify the exact coordinates of the runway or heliport/helipad on both the map and the Form 7480-1.
- Specify on the Form 7480-1 whether the geographical coordinates are 1927 or 1983 datum (the dates are shown on the bottom left of the map).
Public-use airports receive some protection based on FAR Part 77 from construction that might obstruct the airspace for the airport. To provide this protection we need to know the exact location of the airport runway ends. It is important that the location be depicted carefully on the map or that it be determined by a land survey. Use these calculators to help determine correct coordinates, runway length, and magnetic bearing.
The FAA has no jurisdiction over land use or zoning. We recommend that you contact the appropriate city or county planning agency for information on land use policies in the airport vicinity. We recommend that the proposal be prepared on the basis of established airport design standards. A copy of the recommended dimensional standards will be forwarded to you when we have completed our review of your proposal. If you have further questions, please contact one of the following Airports District Offices based on the state the proposal is located in:
