How can I determine if an alteration project can be approved under the field approval process?

The use of FAA Order 8900.1, Vol. 4, Aircraft Equipment and Operational Authorizations, Chapter 9, Selected Field Approvals, enables an applicant, designee, FAA inspector and FAA engineer to identify alteration projects that can be approved under the field approval process.

FAA Order 8900.1, Vol. 4, Chapter 9, describes alterations, by major product line, that could be approved by other means, such as through data, coordinated field approvals, or engineering assistance.

Note:  The above link opens the Flight Standards Information Management System (FSIMS) home page. To locate FAA Order 8900.1 Field Approvals Sections, select the "8900.1 CONTENTS" link from the list on the left side of the page, then select Vol. 4, and Chapter 9.
