Aeronautical Information Circulars (AICs) and NOTAMs issued by the implementating States should be reviewed for operational detail.
Quick Guide - Most Frequently Asked Questions |
Here are answers to the most frequently asked questions:-
- You do not need to have been height monitored before flying in EUR RVSM airspace. More information.
|
- Height monitoring prior to the issuance of an RVSM operations approval is not a requirement.
|
- Ferry flights in RVSM airspace require RVSM operations approval from the state of registry or state to whom operations responsibility has been delegated. More information.
|
- Only European (EUR Region) monitoring results are shown on the Monitoring Results pages. More information.
|
- Monitoring results published by other regions are valid worldwide but will not be shown on our results pages. For confirmation of monitoring results please contact the region where the measure was taken. More information.

RVSM Implementation
A Reduced Vertical Separation Minimum (RVSM) of 300m (1000ft) separation between aircraft was introduced on 24 January 2002 by 41 European and North African countries.
RVSM provides six additional cruising levels between FL 290 and FL 410, resulting in substantial reductions in fuel costs and in-flight delays.

RVSM is also applied in part of the volume of airspace between FL290 and FL410 inclusive in the Algiers FIR and the Canarias UIR (AFI Region).
Note 1: The volume of airspace specified above is referred to as EUR RVSM airspace.
Note 2: In the Rostov FIR, RVSM has been implemented over the high seas only.
Transition tasks associated with the application of a 300m (1000ft) vertical separation minimum within EUR RVSM airspace shall be carried out in all or parts of the following FIRs/UIRs:
Algiers, Ankara, Baku, Canarias (AFI Region), Casablanca, France, Hellas, Kharkiv, Kyiv, Madrid, Malta, Minsk, Nicosia, Riga, Rostov, Rovaniemi, Simferopol, Tallinn, Tampere, Tbilsi, Tunis.
Note: This volume of airspace is referred to as EUR RVSM transition airspace.
European/North Atlantic (NAT) Interface - Non-RVSM Approved Aircraft
The State authorities responsible for Norway, Scottish, Shannon, London, France, Madrid and Lisboa FIRs/UIRs have established designated airspace within their FIRs/UIRs for the purpose of transitioning non-RVSM approved aircraft operating to and from the NAT Region.
ACCs/UACs providing ATC service within this airspace may clear such non-RVSM approved aircraft to climb or descend through RVSM airspace. Such climbs or descents shall be achieved before the aircraft passes the transfer of control point to the adjacent ACC/UAC, if applicable, unless otherwise specified in an inter-ACC letter of agreement.
