The FAA is the acknowledged leader in aviation and aerospace transportation.  Our mission is to provide the safest, most efficient system in the world.  The Office of the Chief Counsel plays a vital role in supporting the Agency’s safety functions and offers opportunities for interested law students to join in our work.  Our attorneys represent the FAA before a variety of forums, including: National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Office of Dispute Resolution for Acquisition (ODRA), and United States federal courts.  The FAA Counsel’s Office also works closely with the Office of the General Counsel of the Department of Transportation on issues that are of national significance to aviation.

We offer full-time summer and part-time fall and spring semester legal internships to current law students who will be continuing in law school upon completion of their internships.  The internships are located in our Washington, D.C. Headquarters, close to the National Mall and the L’Enfant Plaza Metro Station.  The internships are unpaid, but offer the opportunity to work directly with senior staff in one or more of our principal practice areas on a variety of substantive assignments.  In addition, several of our interns have received academic credit for their work with us.

We invite applications from qualified law students who are United States citizens.  To apply, submit a current resume and copy of your transcript along with a cover letter identifying the principal practice area(s) you are interested in and a writing sample to: 9-AWA-AGC-Internship@faa.gov.  We review application packages as we receive them and make offers in time for the applicable semester.  Thank you for your interest in the FAA Office of the Chief Counsel.
